With just 2 ingredients and 15 minutes of prep time, these little bites of heaven are super easy to make and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Every bite is a party in your mouth, I bet you can’t just have one of these addictive snacks!  But no matter how delectably good these appetizers are, they are just appetizers. You’ll want to serve them with a few complimentary side dishes. You can pair these tasty snacks with a variety of dips, toppings, and picnic-inspired sides. If you’re looking for a dish that pairs well with the sweet and savory flavors of this sausage-filled pastry, you’ve come to the right place. Here are seven fantastic dishes to serve with pigs in a blanket.

1. Baked Beans

Baked beans are my go-to dish when I know I’m serving a lot of guests, and I want to make them full and happy. This dish is incredibly hearty but also sweet, savory, and delicious. No picnic is truly complete without a side of baked beans. The sweet and smoky flavors pair beautifully with pigs in blankets. Plus, they’re easy to make. All it takes to flavor these guys is some brown sugar and bacon. Or, if you want to make them smokier, mix them with barbecue sauce and add onions, peppers, and, of course, bacon. You don’t even need to use dried beans for this recipe – canned beans will do. Just be sure to soak them in water overnight before you bake them.

2. Mac & Cheese

You can never go wrong with mac and cheese. This classic pasta dish easily complements a variety of flavors. But pairs especially well with the smoky and savory sausage inside the soft crescent roll. And, if you’re obsessed with cheese like me, here’s an idea: wrap your sausages in shredded cheese before rolling them in pastry dough. That way, you get cheese from both your pigs in blankets and mac and cheese. Because why not? Double the cheese, double the goodness!

3. Deviled Eggs

If you’re having a picnic and plan to serve pigs in a blanket, you have to make deviled eggs, too. You just have to. These two appetizers taste so good together, you can’t make one without the other. Pigs in a blanket are on the dryer side, so you’ll want something moist and creamy to balance it out. As you may have guessed, no other dish does this better than deviled eggs. If you’ve been making deviled eggs for years and want to switch things up a little, I suggest using hummus instead of mayonnaise. Hummus is rich and tasty but isn’t as high in caloriies as mayo, so it’s great for those who are watching their diets.  If you want your deviled eggs to be even creamier, top them with a dollop of guacamole! Not only will it make your eggs richer, but it will also make them so much prettier.

4. Pancakes and Scrambled Eggs

Apart from being a perfect party appetizer, pigs in a blanket also make for a fantastic breakfast item. If you have any leftover from last night’s party (although unlikely), you can serve these yummy treats the next morning! Eat or serve them with some sweet and fluffy pancakes and moist and tender scrambled eggs to give you all that energy you need to go about your day. And you know what? Here’s an idea: why not make a modified pig in a blanket by rolling a sausage in a piece of pancake? It’s easy to make, delicious, and filling: sounds like the perfect breakfast to me!

5. Corn Pudding

Give your party a Southern flair by serving corn pudding with your pigs in a blanket. This sweet and creamy custard is bursting with flavor – it’s got corn, milk, and eggs – the combination of all things wonderful.  Plus, it’s super easy to make. You essentially combine all the ingredients into a casserole dish and bake for one hour. Easy peasy and so delicious. It’s comfort food at its finest.

6. Dips

As I’ve mentioned, because it’s pure sausage and pastry, pigs in a blanket are a bit on the dry side. They will always need some dips, sauces, and dressings to add some moisture and tasty goodness. Some of the classics include ketchup, mustard, and barbecue sauce. But you can also kick things up a notch by whipping up exciting dressings like honey mustard, honey-dijon, or chili cheese. Yum!

7. Fruit Salad

Last but not least, give your guests a nice dessert to round out your meal. Since they’re loaded with carbs, pigs in a blanket can be heavy on the tummy. As such, you’ll want something light and refreshing for dessert. A simple fruit salad made with fresh strawberries, mangoes, mandarin oranges, and peaches coated in cream perfectly fits the bill.
